Stamicarbon (NEXTCHEM) wins NX STAMI Urea licensing, PDP and equipment contract for Shandong Lianmeng plant

Key highlights
  • Contract covers licensing, process design package (PDP) and proprietary equipment supply for a new urea plant in China.
  • Ultra‑Low Energy NX STAMI Urea design reduces steam consumption by 35% and cooling water usage by 16% versus conventional methods.
  • Pool reactor and stripper will be built in E‑type super duplex stainless steel.
  • This is the 10th global Ultra‑Low Energy application and the 8th in China; seven plants are already in operation.

Contract scope

Stamicarbon has been awarded the licensing, process design package (PDP) and proprietary equipment supply based on its NX STAMI Urea™ technology for a new urea plant to be built for Shandong Lianmeng Chemical Company in China.

Technology and efficiency

The plant will adopt Stamicarbon’s Ultra‑Low Energy design from the NX STAMI Urea™ series, which the company says enables a 35% reduction in steam consumption and a 16% decrease in cooling water usage compared with conventional methods. The design uses high‑pressure steam utilization and an advanced pool reactor layout.

Materials and product quality

Key equipment, including the pool reactor and stripper, will use E‑type super duplex stainless steel. The process is also described as delivering very low biuret content and high‑quality prills through Stamicarbon’s prilling tower design.

Project context

A Shandong Lianmeng representative cited positive progress on a first Ultra‑Low Energy plant under construction and said that experience supports investing in a second plant using the same technology. Stamicarbon noted the award strengthens its presence in China and marked the tenth global application of the Ultra‑Low Energy technology and the eighth in China, with seven plants already in operation.
