Sonatrach launches 140,000 m3/day desalination plant construction in Ben M’Hidi, Skikda

Project launch
Sonatrach's CEO and local authorities officially launched construction of a seawater desalination plant in the Ben M’Hidi borough of Skikda. Senior executives from Sonatrach’s support holding, the Algerian Desalination Company (ADC) and the National Pipeline Company (ENAC) attended the launch.
Capacity and allocation
The plant will have a production capacity of 140,000 cubic meters per day, with 100,000 m3/d allocated to the Skikda industrial area and 40,000 m3/d supplied to l’Algerienne des Eaux (ADE).
Timeline and execution
The works are scheduled for completion within 24 months. ADC has been entrusted with the project and ENAC with executing the construction works; both companies are subsidiaries of the Sonatrach Group.
Policy context
The project is presented as part of national authorities' efforts to reinforce water security and sovereignty and to strengthen control over water resources.
