Plant Construction and Launch
In the second half of 2020, AFYREN began constructing its first plant, AFYREN NEOXY, in Carling-Saint Avold, France. The plant, which is the world’s first for industrial-scale production of biobased carboxylic acids from sugar beet by-products, completed construction in Q1 2022 despite the health crisis. This completion marked the start of the industrial start-up phase, involving technical tests and gradual commissioning of equipment.
Initial Production and Deliveries
In recent weeks, the plant produced several metric tons of biobased organic acids and delivered the first lots. AFYREN has secured commercial commitments for 75% of the plant’s annual acid production and 100% of its fertilizer, representing total cumulative sales of over €165 million to be realized in the coming years.
Future Production Goals
AFYREN aims to start continuous production by autumn 2023 and gradually increase volumes to reach an annual production capacity of 16,000 tons of carboxylic acids. The company projects total annual sales, including fertilizer, to be around €35 million. The plant is targeting an EBITDA margin of 25% at full capacity and expects to reach its break-even point by the end of 2023.
