AFYREN

About AFYREN

AFYREN is a France-based industrial biotechnology company focused on producing bio-based carboxylic acids from renewable, non-food biomass. Using natural fermentation, it manufactures a range of short-chain acids—including acetic, propionic, butyric, isobutyric, valeric, isovaleric, and caproic—that are typically derived from petrochemical routes.

The company’s process uses agricultural co-products such as sugar-beet residues and natural microorganisms to convert biomass into high-purity ingredients. Designed around circular-economy principles, the technology aims to lower greenhouse-gas emissions and minimize waste, with a mineral-rich fertilizer produced as a co-product.

AFYREN supplies bio-based ingredients and intermediates for markets with stringent quality requirements, including food and animal nutrition, flavors and fragrances, cosmetics and personal care, and specialty chemicals. It operates an industrial-scale production site in eastern France to serve customers in Europe and beyond.
