AFYREN NEOXY is a French industrial company operating the first large-scale biorefinery based on AFYREN's proprietary fermentation technology. Located on the Chemesis industrial platform in Carling Saint-Avold, Moselle region of France, the facility converts non-food sugar beet co-products into seven 100% biobased carboxylic acids, including butyric and acetic acids, along with a potassium sulfate fertilizer co-product. The plant employs a fully circular model with water recycling and achieves a significantly reduced carbon footprint compared to traditional petrochemical processes.
With a production capacity of approximately 16,000 tonnes per year of carboxylic acids and around 23,000 tonnes of fertilizer, the biorefinery represents a total investment of about 60 to 80 million euros. It is the flagship project of the EU AFTER-BIOCHEM initiative and the first of its kind at industrial scale. The company was established in 2018 as a joint venture between AFYREN and Bpifrance's SPI fund, with AFYREN acquiring full 100% ownership in 2026 through the purchase of the remaining stake.
AFYREN NEOXY serves primarily the European market, supplying biobased ingredients to sectors such as human and animal nutrition, flavors and fragrances, life sciences, materials, and lubricants. As a dedicated subsidiary now fully consolidated by its parent AFYREN, it plays a key role in the group's strategy to deploy sustainable bio-based chemical solutions and expand industrial capacity. The plant achieved continuous production in 2025 and is in the ramp-up phase, with secured offtake agreements providing substantial future revenue visibility.
