- The demonstration plant will process 27kt of waste plastics annually.
- The plant will offset over 20kt of fossil resources per year.
- The project will create approximately 40 full-time jobs.
- Itero previously received a grant from the Netherlands Enterprise Agency and a €6m investment led by Infinity Recycling’s Circular Plastics Fund.
Funding and Support
Itero has been awarded €5 million by the European Union’s Just Transition Fund (JTF) for its demonstration plant at Brightlands Chemelot Campus in Limburg, the Netherlands. This funding is part of the JTF's initiative to support regions transitioning to a low-carbon economy. Previously, Itero also received a grant from the Netherlands Enterprise Agency and a €6 million investment led by Infinity Recycling’s Circular Plastics Fund.
Plant Capabilities
The demonstration plant will process 27,000 tonnes of waste plastics annually, which is five times the amount of plastic waste collected by the city of Maastricht each year. The plant aims to offset over 20,000 tonnes of fossil resources per year, equivalent to nearly 500 barrels a day.
Economic and Environmental Impact
The project will create approximately 40 full-time jobs, supporting the transition from the petrochemical industry to a circular plastics hub. This initiative will help retain expertise in the Limburg region and attract further investment into the area.
