BarMar enters FEED for H2med Barcelona–Marseille hydrogen pipeline
- BarMar project has entered the FEED phase to finalise pipeline design, route and compression station layout.
- The offshore corridor will connect Barcelona and Marseille for green hydrogen transport.
- The H2med–BarMar project received over €28 million from the CEF in January 2025 to fund engineering, surveys and permit work.
- FEED will provide the technical basis for partners’ FID ahead of a planned commercial start in 2032.
FEED launch and technical scope
The BarMar offshore pipeline project has moved from pre‑FEED to the Front‑End Engineering Design phase. Pre‑FEED confirmed overall technical feasibility and established the design basis for the pipeline and compression station; an advanced corridor route has been defined using initial environmental impact assessment findings, which remain ongoing.
What FEED will deliver
FEED will confirm the pipeline design and final route, finalise the compression station layout, prepare permitting files and define technical specifications for construction preparation and material procurement. The next contractual steps are awarding the FEED engineering package and an offshore detailed marine survey. Results from these studies will form the technical basis for partners and investors to take a Final Investment Decision ahead of construction.
Funding, schedule and political context
Under CEF funding allocated in January 2025, H2med–BarMar benefited from over €28 million to finance engineering studies, marine and environmental surveys, environmental impact assessments and permit activities. The public consultation in France and Spain concluded in July 2026; in France the concertation guarantors will publish a feedback report with recommendations for promoters. A ministerial meeting on 6 July in Paris, attended by energy ministers from Portugal, France and Spain, European Energy Commissioner Dan Jørgensen, regulators, operators and Germany (present for the first time in the group), underlined political momentum for the H2med corridor, which aims for commissioning in 2032 provided regulatory conditions are met.
