BarMar is a dedicated special purpose vehicle (SPV) established in June 2025 to develop, finance, construct, own, and operate the BarMar hydrogen interconnector, a key cross-border infrastructure asset within the European H2med corridor.
The company is a joint venture with shareholding split as Enagás Infraestructuras de Hidrógeno (EIH) 50%, NaTran 33.3%, and Teréga 16.7%, reflecting the 50/50 Spain-France balance of the broader project. Headquartered at 75 Avenue de la Roubine, ZI des Paluds, 13400 Aubagne (near Marseille) in France’s Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region, it is led by CEO Francisco de la Flor García.
BarMar’s core mandate is the delivery of an approximately 400 km dedicated offshore/subsea pipeline for renewable (green) hydrogen transport from the Barcelona area (with compressor station) in Spain to the Fos-sur-Mer industrial hub near Marseille in France. The pipeline, with a maximum capacity of 2 Mt/year, maximum depth around 120 m, and operating pressure up to 100 barg, is designated Project of Common Interest (PCI 9.1.4) and forms the Spain-France segment of H2med alongside the CelZa link.
With a target commercial operation date of 2032 and an estimated budget of around €2.135 billion, BarMar enables large-scale export of competitively produced Iberian renewable hydrogen to French and northern European demand centers, supporting EU decarbonization, industrial competitiveness, and energy security objectives as part of the RePowerEU strategy.
