Molins, Enagás and Linde selected for EU Innovation Fund support for Mosusol‑NetCO₂

Key highlights
  • Mosusol‑NetCO₂ aims to capture around 1 million tonnes of CO₂ per year, including the biogenic fraction.
  • The system targets capture of approximately 97% of emissions from Portland clinker and calcium aluminate, avoiding up to 1.1 million tonnes CO₂ annually.
  • Molins will deploy the capture system at its Sant Vicenç dels Horts plant; Enagás will deliver CO₂ transport infrastructure; Linde will supply capture technology and oxygen for oxy‑combustion.
  • The project was selected under the EU Innovation Fund’s Net‑Zero Technologies call, is subject to signing a grant agreement, and has been awarded the STEP seal.

Project scope and impact

Mosusol‑NetCO₂ proposes an industrial‑scale CO₂ capture installation at the Molins cement plant in Sant Vicenç dels Horts (Barcelona) with capacity to capture about one million tonnes of CO₂ per year, including the biogenic fraction. The initiative intends to capture roughly 97% of emissions from Portland clinker and calcium aluminate production, preventing up to 1.1 million tonnes of CO₂ annually.

Roles and technology

Molins is leading development and deployment of the capture system on site. Enagás will be responsible for CO₂ transport infrastructure and logistics, while Linde will provide the carbon capture technology and the oxygen required for the oxy‑combustion process via an air separation unit. The project combines advanced capture technologies with transport infrastructure to support wider industrial decarbonisation.

Funding and recognition

The European Commission selected Mosusol‑NetCO₂ for funding under the EU Innovation Fund’s Net‑Zero Technologies (IF25 NZT) call; the award is subject to signing the relevant grant agreement. The project has also received the STEP seal and builds on a collaboration between Molins and Enagás first announced in February 2025.
