Project Completion
Fluor Corporation has achieved mechanical completion of BASF's Zhanjiang Verbund project in South China. This marks BASF's largest investment to date, with the project completed safely, recording over 75 million work hours without a Lost Time Injury.
Project Scope
The project involved critical engineering, procurement, and construction support for BASF's integrated operations. Key components include an EOEG process unit, a 220kV substation, a steam plant, water treatment systems, seawater intake, distributed cooling towers, wastewater treatment and waste handling units, a container yard, automated warehouses, and site-wide piping and logistics infrastructure.
Timeline and Workforce
Fluor began early site work in late 2021. At the peak of construction, approximately 13,000 workers were engaged across multiple areas of the site.
Future Operations
Once fully operational, the Zhanjiang Verbund Site will be BASF's third largest globally, following Ludwigshafen and Antwerp. The site will primarily serve the Chinese market, which is the largest and fastest-growing chemical market in the world, and will act as a model for sustainable production both in China and globally.
