Project Overview

Worley has been contracted by Preem for FEED verification to convert the ICR plant at the Lysekil refinery in Sweden. The project will transition the plant from conventional diesel production to renewable diesel and sustainable aviation fuel.

Timeline and Phases

The FEED verification is set to begin in August 2025. The contract includes a transition to the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction Management (EPCm) phase, expected to start in early 2026, contingent on Preem's final investment decision.

Environmental Impact

The conversion aims to reduce annual emissions by 2–3 million tonnes of CO2e at the end-user level and approximately 200,000 tonnes of CO2e annually at the refinery itself.

Technical Details

The project involves repurposing the existing ICR unit, traditionally used for producing lighter, high-value products from hydrocarbons, to produce renewable fuels from vegetable and animal oils/fat.
