Contract and scope

Exolum has begun operating the aviation fuel storage and distribution facilities and the hydrant network at Cristiano Ronaldo International Airport in Madeira under a seven‑year contract with an option to extend to nine years. The current fuel farm comprises six horizontal tanks and the hydrant system is over one kilometre long with 32 supply points.

Investment and upgrades

The company will invest more than €4.5 million by 2029 to build new tanks, progressively modernise existing facilities and implement advanced control and safety systems to raise storage capacity to 1,300 m³ and increase the airport's operational autonomy to five days.

Capacity and traffic forecasts

Madeira handled over 5 million passengers in 2024 and runs more than 600 weekly flights. Forecasts estimate an average annual fuel supply of 120,000 m³ by 2030, up from 105,000 m³ distributed in 2025.

Strategic position

With Madeira, Exolum now operates at 50 airports across Europe and Latin America, including Lisbon’s Humberto Delgado. The project is intended to support operational efficiency, reliability and the implementation of sustainable aviation fuels (SAF); CEO Javier Goñi said the addition consolidates the company’s aviation presence.
