EnviTec Biogas advances three biomethane projects in Germany

Project updates

EnviTec’s Priborn site began upgrading biogas to biomethane in July. The plant, in operation since 2004 and formerly with a 550 kWel electrical output, was expanded with an EnviThan gas upgrader rated 475 Nm³/h and fitted with PreMix mixing technology, a push floor system, a technical building, an oxygen generator, three digestate storage tanks with two filling stations, a pump house, a separation unit and an additional emergency flare.

At Friesoythe, after 22 years of biogas production and the expiry of EEG remuneration on 1 January 2025, a former 370 kW co‑fermentation plant is being converted for biomethane injection to the local gas grid operated by EWE NETZ. The first expansion stage targets 500 Nm³/h of raw biogas, with a potential long‑term capacity of 600 Nm³/h, using farm slurry, manure and renewable raw materials as feedstocks.

Containerised upgrade and timing

In Delbrück a customer‑owned plant will be fitted with a 200 Nm³/h upgrading unit housed in a 45‑foot container, equipped with 4‑ and 6‑inch membranes. The container is due for delivery in the second week of September, with the first feed‑in scheduled for November; the owners already run a combined heat and power unit and will inject biomethane into the local grid.

Role of biomethane

Biomethane is produced by upgrading biogas from organic residues and renewable raw materials to a composition nearly identical to fossil natural gas, enabling its use for electricity and heat generation, transport fuel and industrial processes while reducing greenhouse gas emissions and fossil dependence.
