Project Overview

Vulcan Energy is advancing its Phase One Lionheart Project, focusing on integrated lithium and renewable energy production for Europe's battery electric vehicle industry. The company has developed a qualification strategy to pre-qualify its lithium hydroxide monohydrate (LHM) material before full commercial production.

Qualification Process

The strategy involves producing and dispatching battery-quality LHM, branded V-Li0N™, to offtake partners from Vulcan's qualification plant. This step aims to fast-track sales of qualified material. Internal and external lab analyses confirm the product meets battery-quality specifications.

Production Milestones

Vulcan commenced production at its qualification plant, CLEOP, on 8 November 2024, achieving the first battery-quality V-Li0N™ on 13 January 2025. This marks Europe's first fully domestically produced battery-quality lithium hydroxide, enhancing the region's critical raw material supply chain resilience.

Sustainability

The V-Li0N™ product is produced using sustainable methods, including A-DLE extraction and fully electrified production via electrolysis. The raw material is sourced from deep, heated brines, with geothermal renewable energy as a co-product for local communities.
