Chevron discovers oil and gas condensate in Angola Block 0

Key highlights
  • 105-4X well in Block 0 (Lower Congo Basin) encountered an oil and gas condensate column of more than 600 metres with over 90 metres of net pay in the Pinda reservoir.
  • The discovery will be assessed for potential development as a tie-back to Chevron’s existing nearby facilities to enable a capital-efficient path to production.
  • Block 0 is operated by CABGOC (39.2% working interest) and co-owned by Sonangol E&P (41%), TotalEnergies (10%) and Azule Energy (9.8%).
  • Chevron is producing around 300,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day net in Sub‑Saharan Africa and plans a multi-well regional exploration programme, including Namibia’s Nabba-1X on PEL90 before year-end.

Discovery details

Cabinda Gulf Oil Company Limited confirmed an oil and gas condensate discovery at the 105-4X exploration well in Block 0, drilled in the Lower Congo Basin. The well encountered an oil and gas condensate column of more than 600 metres in the primary Pinda reservoir, including more than 90 metres of net pay in excellent reservoir quality.

Development intent and partners

The discovery will be assessed for potential development as a tie-back to existing nearby facilities to provide a capital-efficient route to production. Block 0 is operated by CABGOC (39.2% working interest) and co-owned by Sonangol E&P (41%), TotalEnergies (10%) and Azule Energy (9.8%).

Regional programme and context

The result builds on Chevron’s Sub‑Saharan Africa programme, where the company produces roughly 300,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day net and has added acreage across the region. Recent moves include Nigerian farm‑ins to PPL2000 and PPL2001, award of PPL2010, three near‑field successes in Nigeria since late 2024 (Meji NW‑1, South Delta AA, Awodi‑07), acquisition of Block 4B in Guinea‑Bissau (closed August 13, 2026), and additional licences in Equatorial Guinea and Angola. Chevron is preparing a high‑impact, multi‑well exploration programme across the region, including Namibia’s Nabba‑1X on PEL90 before year‑end.
