Project Overview
The New Gas Consortium (NGC) project in Angola has commenced gas production from the Quiluma field, marking Angola's first non-associated gas development. The project is operated by Azule Energy, a joint venture between bp and Eni, with a 37.4% stake.
Production Details
Initial production from the Quiluma field is set at 150 million standard cubic feet (mmscf) per day, with plans to increase to 330 mmscf per day by the end of 2026. Gas is extracted from the shallow water offshore Quiluma field, processed onshore, and then delivered to the Angola LNG plant for export.
Partnerships and Stakeholders
Azule Energy leads the project in partnership with Cabinda Gulf Oil Company (31%), Sonangol E&P (19.8%), TotalEnergies (11.8%), and ANPG as the National Concessionaire. The collaboration highlights the strategic partnerships driving the project forward.
Recent Developments
In November 2025, the partners inaugurated the project's gas treatment plant in Soyo, northern Angola. The NGC start-up follows other upstream successes for Azule Energy, including the Agogo field production in July 2025 and the Ndungu development in February 2026.
Exploration Achievements
Since early 2025, Azule Energy has announced four hydrocarbon discoveries: the Algaita-01 well and Gajajeira-01 gas find in Angola, and the Volans-1X and Capricornus-1X discoveries in Namibia's Orange Basin. These discoveries contribute to the region's growing energy portfolio.
