It functions as the dedicated project company and joint venture entity for the construction, financing, and operation of the Grandpuits SAF biorefinery. This facility forms a central element of TotalEnergies' broader conversion of the former crude oil refinery into a zero-crude industrial platform focused on biofuels and circular economy activities.
The company processes waste and residue feedstocks, primarily used cooking oils and animal fats, via the HEFA/Ecofining process to produce sustainable aviation fuel (SAF or biojet, targeted at up to 230,000 tonnes per year), renewable diesel, and bio-naphtha. The biorefinery has an approximate feedstock processing capacity of 420,000 tonnes per year and benefits from dedicated project financing arranged with sponsors TotalEnergies and SARIA.
Ownership is structured as a joint venture between TotalEnergies and SARIA (a subsidiary of the German Rethmann Group), which also supplies key feedstocks. TESSAF SAS operates in the sustainable biofuels sector, supporting aviation decarbonization and Europe's energy transition goals while leveraging brownfield infrastructure at the repurposed site.
