Stockholm Exergi AB is an energy utility that plans, builds, and operates the district heating and district cooling networks for the Stockholm region in Sweden. The company runs combined heat and power (CHP) plants, waste-to-energy and biofuel-fired units, large heat pumps, thermal storage, and extensive distribution infrastructure, supplying heat, cooling, and electricity to municipal, residential, and industrial customers.
Its strategy emphasizes circular energy flows and decarbonization, including recovery of waste heat (for example from data centers) and increased use of renewable and residual fuels. Stockholm Exergi is also developing bioenergy with carbon capture and storage (BECCS) at its biomass CHP plant in Stockholm to deliver durable negative emissions and lower the carbon intensity of its district energy system. The company is jointly owned by the City of Stockholm and a consortium of institutional investors.
