About Petoro

Petoro AS is a Norwegian state-owned company that manages the State’s Direct Financial Interest (SDFI) in petroleum activities on the Norwegian continental shelf. Established in 2001 and headquartered in Stavanger, it safeguards the state’s financial interests in upstream oil and gas while supporting sound resource management.

Petoro holds non-operating equity in a wide portfolio of producing fields, developments, pipelines and onshore facilities. This includes stakes in major gas fields and hubs such as Troll, Åsgard, Ormen Lange and Snøhvit, as well as in the Gassled gas transport system. As a license partner, the company follows up operators on reservoir strategy, field development plans, HSE performance and cost efficiency to maximize value creation and recovery on behalf of the state.

Petoro is not an operator and does not market or sell the state’s oil and gas; sales are handled under separate arrangements (for example by Equinor), while Gassco operates the gas transport network. The SDFI portfolio represents a significant share of Norway’s gas deliveries to Europe, underpinning feedstock and energy supplies relevant to the chemical industry.
