Why we featured this project

28 October–3 November 2026

UPM officially opened its Leuna biorefinery on 15 October, but the plant is still ramping up: so far only enzymatic hydrolysis and the lignin-based specialty chemicals have reached stable operation.

UPM is now ramping up sales of these products, ten months after the first commercial product left the site in December 2025.

Featured as project of the week on 28 October 2026. The record may have changed since; this is its current state. Subscribers see the full detail on all 2,875 projects.
