Sasol and Air Liquide Secure Renewable Energy for Secunda

Consortium Agreement

A consortium including TotalEnergies Renewables South Africa, Mulilo Energy Holdings, and Reatile Renewables has finalized a deal to supply 260 MW of wind and solar energy to Sasol and Air Liquide at Secunda, South Africa.

Power Purchase Agreements

Sasol and Air Liquide signed Power Purchase Agreements with TotalEnergies and Mulilo in February 2023. The agreements cover the Mulilo De Aar 2 South Wind Farm, producing 140 MW, and the Paarde Valley Solar PV plant, generating 120 MW.

Renewable Energy Projects

Sasol, South Africa's largest private sector buyer of renewable energy, has 688 MW of renewable projects under construction. These include a 97.5 MW solar project in the Free State and the Impofu cluster, totaling 330 MW of wind energy. The new projects will add 260 MW.

Operational Plants

Sasol currently operates a 3 MW solar PV facility in Sasolburg and the 69 MW Msenge wind farm, which became operational in October 2024.

Economic Impact and Timeline

The renewable energy initiatives are expected to inject R18-20 billion into the South African economy. The commercial operations for Paarde Valley and Mulilo De Aar 2 are anticipated by the end of 2026.
