VIDA bioenergy scales RNG and biogas across Europe

Key highlights
  • Launched in January 2025 as a standalone VTTI subsidiary to focus on RNG and biogas.
  • VIDA Wormslade groundbreaking underway; plant due online mid‑2026 and will heat over 5,000 homes annually.
  • VIDA Glentham has injected its first biomethane to the UK National Transmission System, with annual output above 60 GWh.
  • Dutch plans include a revamp near ’s‑Hertogenbosch and a proposed 400 GWh biogas/biomethane plant in Limburg, with FID targeted for 2026.

Standalone unit and strategy

VIDA bioenergy was launched in January 2025 as a 100% VTTI subsidiary to concentrate specialised resources on the renewable natural gas (RNG) and biogas market. CEO Lars Boetje said the separation was intended to accelerate growth by allowing the new unit to specialise and dedicate resources to RNG and biogas opportunities.

Projects and outputs

Key UK projects include VIDA Wormslade, which broke ground and is expected to be operational in mid‑2026, producing enough biomethane to heat more than 5,000 homes annually, and VIDA Glentham in Lincolnshire, which has injected its first biomethane into the National Transmission System with annual output exceeding 60 GWh. In the Netherlands VIDA is revamping a facility near ’s‑Hertogenbosch and planning a 400 GWh biogas/biomethane plant in Limburg, with final investment decisions targeted for 2026. The company also produces liquid CO₂ and organic fertilisers to support circular economy objectives.

Geographic focus and priorities

VIDA bioenergy is prioritising expansion across Europe—primarily the UK, Netherlands and Poland—while advocating for streamlined regulations to speed plant development. Short‑term operational priorities are employee and contractor safety, maximising biomethane output at existing sites, and advancing major projects including Wormslade and the Limburg development.
