Agreement details
Uniper and Ksi Lisims LNG signed a long‑term Sale and Purchase Agreement under which Uniper will purchase 2 million tonnes of LNG per year (approximately 30 terawatt hours) on a free‑on‑board basis for up to 20 years. The signing took place in the presence of Germany’s Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy and the Canadian Ambassador to Germany.
Portfolio impact and flexibility
The deal is described as the first major long‑term LNG supply arrangement between Canada and Germany and is intended to strengthen Uniper’s long‑term LNG portfolio. The volumes are fully destination‑flexible to provide additional flexibility to support security of supply in Europe when needed.
Low‑carbon liquefaction
Ksi Lisims is designed to use hydroelectricity from British Columbia to power the liquefaction process and is expected to produce LNG with roughly 90% lower carbon intensity than conventional LNG facilities.
Partnership and development
The project is co‑developed with the Nisga’a Nation alongside Western LNG and Rockies LNG, combining Indigenous leadership, industry expertise and international partners as part of its development approach.
