Key highlights
  • Eni and YPF signed the Final Technical Project Description for the Argentina LNG project.
  • The project includes two floating gas liquefaction units with a capacity of 6 MTPA each.
  • The agreement follows a Head of Agreement signed in June 2025.
  • Argentina LNG aims to export up to 30 MTPA in various phases.

Meeting Overview

On October 10, 2025, Argentina's President Javier Milei met with Eni CEO Claudio Descalzi in Buenos Aires to discuss Eni's projects and future initiatives in the country.

Agreement Details

Following the meeting, Eni and YPF signed the Final Technical Project Description (FTPD) for the Argentina LNG project. This agreement is a significant step towards the Final Investment Decision for a 12 MTPA liquefied natural gas phase.

Project Specifications

The Argentina LNG project involves the production, processing, transportation, and liquefaction of gas for export. It includes two floating gas liquefaction units, each with a capacity of 6 MTPA, equivalent to approximately 9 billion cubic meters of gas per year.

Background and Expertise

The agreement builds on a Head of Agreement signed in June 2025. It leverages Eni's expertise in fast-track FLNG projects and YPF's experience in managing the Vaca Muerta field's upstream operations.

Project Goals

Argentina LNG is designed to develop the onshore Vaca Muerta gas field and serve international markets, with plans to export up to 30 million tonnes of LNG per year in various phases. The project aligns with Eni's strategy to promote the energy transition and aims for carbon neutrality by 2050.
