Sunfire unveils 50 MW HyLink Alkaline 23 electrolyzer

Key highlights
  • Sunfire presented the HyLink® Alkaline 23, a 50‑megawatt electrolyzer system, at the World Hydrogen Summit 2026.
  • The system is designed for large‑scale projects and the next phase of industrial market ramp‑up.
  • Sunfire said its current 100‑MW projects are repeat orders from existing customers.
  • Nils Aldag said RED III and the GHG‑quota could create demand for up to five gigawatts of electrolyzer capacity in Germany over the next five years and cited a €400 billion additional cost burden for Europe in 2022 from fossil fuel dependence.

Launch at World Hydrogen Summit

Sunfire presented the HyLink® Alkaline 23, a 50‑megawatt electrolyzer system built for large‑scale projects and the next phase of industrial market ramp‑up at the World Hydrogen Summit 2026 in Rotterdam. The company said its current 100‑MW projects are repeat orders from existing customers.

Geopolitical and competitiveness context

Nils Aldag, Sunfire CEO and board member of Hydrogen Europe, warned that dependence on fossil fuel imports poses a serious risk to Germany’s and Europe’s industrial base, citing an additional cost burden of around €400 billion for Europe in 2022 and saying the current Middle East conflict could add further hundreds of billions. He argued that, when total costs are taken into account, green hydrogen produced in Europe is in most cases more cost‑competitive than imported hydrogen and highlighted European manufacturers’ strengths in standards, execution and reliability.

Policy and demand outlook

According to Aldag, the implementation of RED III via the GHG‑quota has created reliable demand at scale in Germany; based on Sunfire’s calculations, demand for up to five gigawatts of electrolyzer capacity could emerge over the next five years, providing a clear signal for investment and industrial value creation.
