Project Overview
Mainstream Renewable Power has achieved financial close on a 97.5MW solar PV project in Free State, South Africa. This project is part of a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) to supply renewable energy to Sasol and Air Liquide's Secunda operations.
Timeline and Capacity
The solar power plant is expected to be operational by 2025. This is the first of Sasol and Air Liquide's decarbonisation projects to reach financial close, following two previous PPAs announced in early 2023.
Additional Agreements
Sasol and Air Liquide have secured nearly 600MW for Secunda, with over 200MW already receiving grid access from Eskom. Additionally, a 69MW wind energy agreement with Msenge Emoyeni Wind Farm for Sasol's Sasolburg site reached financial close in March 2023, with operations expected by Q2 2024.
