Eskom Holdings SOC Ltd

About Eskom

Eskom Holdings SOC Ltd is South Africa’s state-owned electricity utility and one of Africa’s largest power producers. It generates, transmits, and distributes electricity across the country. Eskom’s fleet is predominantly coal-fired, complemented by the Koeberg nuclear power station, as well as hydro and pumped‑storage schemes. It also facilitates the integration of renewable energy from independent power producers via grid connections and power purchase arrangements. Established in 1923, Eskom is headquartered at Megawatt Park in Johannesburg.

For the chemical and petrochemical sectors, Eskom is a critical infrastructure partner, supplying power to energy‑intensive industrial hubs and enabling grid access and wheeling for private renewable power agreements. Its role in maintaining grid stability, expanding transmission capacity, and supporting South Africa’s energy transition directly affects the reliability, cost, and decarbonization pathways of major chemical and industrial operations.
