About Eskom

Eskom Holdings SOC Ltd (Eskom) is South Africa’s state-owned, vertically integrated electricity utility. It generates, transmits, and distributes power nationwide, operating a large fleet of coal-fired power stations alongside the Koeberg nuclear power station, as well as hydroelectric, pumped-storage, and gas-fired peaking plants. Eskom owns and manages the national transmission grid and acts as the system operator, supplying electricity to residential, commercial, and industrial customers across the country.

As the primary power supplier to energy-intensive industries—including chemicals, refining, and mining—Eskom plays a central role in underpinning South Africa’s industrial base. Its activities include grid expansion, plant maintenance, and the integration of independent power producers and renewable energy to support the evolution of the country’s energy mix and long-term decarbonization goals.
