RWE Expands Italy's Wind and Solar Capacity to 235 MW

Key highlights
  • RWE started construction of 112 MW wind and Agri-PV capacity in 2025.
  • In 2026, RWE began additional projects totaling 123 MW, including a 66 MW wind farm in Sardinia.
  • Ponte Valentino 1 & 2 solar projects in Campania will have 19 MWac capacity.
  • Four Agri-PV projects totaling 38.2 MWac are scheduled for 2026 commissioning.

Expansion of Renewable Projects

RWE is significantly expanding its renewable energy projects in Italy. After initiating 112 MW of wind and solar projects in 2025, the company has commenced an additional 123 MW in 2026, bringing the total capacity under construction to 235 MW. These projects aim to supply electricity to over 190,000 Italian households.

New Projects in 2026

In 2026, RWE started construction on several key projects, including the Alas onshore wind farm in Sardinia, which features ten 6.6 MW turbines with a total capacity of 66 MW. Additionally, the Ponte Valentino 1 & 2 solar projects in Campania will have a combined capacity of 19 MWac, utilizing over 32,000 solar modules across 25 hectares.

Agri-PV Developments

RWE is also advancing its Agri-PV technology with four new projects totaling 38.2 MWac. These projects, located in Campania, Sicily, and Calabria, will use elevated or high-tilt mounting structures to support agri-pastoral activities. The elevated panels provide protection against adverse weather conditions, and RWE plans to monitor plant performance and collect relevant data.

Future Plans

Looking ahead, RWE is preparing to start construction on the Serra Giannina wind farm in Potenza, Basilicata, which will feature six turbines with a total capacity of 42 MW. This project was successful in the previous year's FER-X auction and is part of RWE's ongoing commitment to expanding its renewable energy footprint in Italy.
