Project Overview

PPG and SAIC General Motors have launched a solvent recycling project in Suzhou, China, aimed at enhancing sustainability in automotive manufacturing. The initiative was announced at the 2025 CARES Conference.

Recycling Process

The project employs advanced distillation and purification technology to recycle up to 80% of waste solvents from OEM paint shops. This closed-loop process repurposes solvents as raw materials for coatings or as reclaimed solvents.

Environmental Impact

This method offers a sustainable alternative to traditional solvent disposal, which often involves incineration and significant CO2 emissions. It also reduces the volume of hazardous waste requiring disposal.

Annual Recycling Target

Through this initiative, more than 430 tons of waste solvents will be recycled annually, improving resource efficiency and environmental protection in the automotive sector.

Recognition

The project was awarded the 2025 RESPONSIBLE CARE® Sustainability Initiative Award by the Association of International Chemical Manufacturers in China, acknowledging its contribution to sustainability.
