Project Launch
POST-PURPLE, a Horizon Europe research and innovation project, officially launched with a Kick-Off Meeting on 21–22 January 2026 at Universidad Rey Juan Carlos in Móstoles, Madrid. The project is led by URJC and involves 15 partners, including BEST.
Project Goals
POST-PURPLE aims to transform urban wastewater and organic waste into valuable resources. The project focuses on developing bio-based technologies to produce nutrients, proteins, and natural compounds, supporting zero-waste and zero-pollution objectives while enhancing the sustainability of urban waste treatment systems.
Environmental Impact
Urban wastewater treatment plants and organic waste facilities significantly contribute to greenhouse gas emissions and energy consumption in Europe. POST-PURPLE addresses this by introducing circular solutions to convert waste streams into resources, reducing pollution and creating new value chains.
Next Steps
During the Kick-Off Meeting, partners discussed technical approaches, pilot activities, and upscaling, defining next steps for implementation at demonstration sites. The project will develop and validate its technology portfolio, aiming to demonstrate cleaner, more circular urban biorefineries and reduce diffuse emissions to air and water.
