Petrobras to invest over R$70 billion in Sergipe

Key highlights
  • Petrobras announced over R$70 billion for Sergipe, with more than R$60 billion allocated to the Sergipe Deep Waters (SEAP) project.
  • Contracts with SBM Offshore cover design, construction and 6.5-year operation of FPSOs P-81 and P-87 (combined capacity up to 240,000 bpd and processing 22 million m³ of natural gas), plus 32 wells and a 134 km gas pipeline; oil production targeted 2030 and gas exports 2031.
  • Fafen‑SE resumed ammonia (Dec 2025) and urea (Jan 2026) production at 1,800 t/d (≈7% of national demand), creating ~530 direct and ~1,500 indirect jobs; Petrobras also plans ~R$12.5 billion to decommission 26 shallow-water platforms by 2035.

Investment package

Petrobras announced over R$70 billion in Sergipe, including more than R$60 billion for the Sergipe Deep Waters (SEAP) project; the package is expected to generate about 28,000 direct and indirect jobs.

SEAP project

Contracts with SBM Offshore cover design, construction, assembly and 6.5-year operation and maintenance of FPSOs P-81 and P-87, which together can produce up to 240,000 barrels per day and process 22 million m³ of natural gas; the project includes 32 wells and a 134 km gas pipeline, with oil production targeted for 2030 and gas exports from 2031, and procurement for Wet Christmas Trees and subsea equipment already under way.

Decommissioning

Petrobras plans approximately R$12.5 billion to decommission 26 shallow-water platforms in Sergipe, covering plugging of 169 wells and removal of structures; the work, started at the end of 2025, should create around 950 direct jobs and involve local suppliers.

Fertiliser plant

The Sergipe Nitrogenous Fertilizer Plant (Fafen‑SE) resumed ammonia production in December 2025 and urea in January 2026 after a R$60 million investment; it produces ammonia, prilled and granulated urea at about 1,800 t/d (roughly 7% of national demand) and has generated around 530 direct and 1,500 indirect jobs.
