Approval and scope

The German Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH) granted planning permission for Nordseecluster B (NC3+NC4), adding 900 MW to the Nordseecluster to reach a combined capacity of 1.6 GW; the site lies ~46 km north of Borkum and ~50 km north of Juist.

Progress and schedule

Nordseecluster A (660 MW) is under construction with all foundations installed and setup of 44 turbines due to begin this summer; A is scheduled for full grid connection by early 2027. For Nordseecluster B, some component production has started, foundation installation is scheduled to start next year, turbine installation (60 units) is planned for 2028, and commercial operations are targeted for early 2029.

Generation and offtake

Combined output from the cluster is expected to be about 6.5 TWh per year; RWE has a 110 MW power purchase agreement for Nordseecluster B with Amazon and intends to supply industrial customers with the project’s electricity.
