Project Resumption
The Mozambique LNG project has fully resumed its onshore and offshore activities. This follows the lifting of the Force Majeure declared in 2021. The project is currently 40% complete, with first LNG production expected in 2029.
Workforce and Local Content
Construction activities have restarted at the Afungi site, employing over 4,000 workers, including more than 3,000 Mozambican nationals. The project aims to provide up to 7,000 direct jobs for Mozambicans during the construction phase. Contracts awarded to Mozambican companies are anticipated to exceed USD 4 billion.
Socio-Economic Development
The Mozambique LNG Foundation, established in 2023 with a budget of USD 200 million, is driving socio-economic development in Cabo Delgado province. The foundation has already created over 8,000 jobs and supported 7,000 farmers and fishermen.
Government Support
The government of Mozambique has confirmed its commitment to the project, ensuring security measures and continued cooperation with Rwanda. This collaboration aims to address the consequences of the Force Majeure period and support the project's successful restart.
