Mozambique LNG

About Mozambique LNG

Mozambique LNG is a large-scale liquefied natural gas venture developing offshore natural gas resources in Area 1 of the Rovuma Basin in northern Mozambique. The project integrates upstream production from the Golfinho-Atum fields, a subsea gathering system, and an onshore liquefaction plant on the Afungi peninsula in Cabo Delgado. It produces LNG for export, along with condensate and a portion of gas for Mozambique’s domestic market.

The development is operated by TotalEnergies through TotalEnergies EP Mozambique Area 1, alongside partners including ENH (Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos), Mitsui, PTTEP, ONGC Videsh, Bharat Petroleum (BPRL), and Oil India. The initial phase is designed around two liquefaction trains with a combined capacity of roughly 13 million tonnes per year, supported by gas processing facilities, LNG storage tanks, and a marine export terminal. Long-term sales agreements have been signed with buyers in Asia and Europe. Mozambique LNG contributes to global LNG supply for power generation, industrial fuel, and as a feedstock source for chemicals and fertilizers.
