- Lhyfe and EDP Renewables signed a 15-year renewable electricity supply contract.
- The contract involves a 39 MWac solar project in Germany, operational by 2025.
- Lhyfe will produce up to 8 tonnes of green hydrogen per day in Germany.
- EDPR entered Germany in 2022 and has a pipeline of over 8 GWp in solar projects.
Contract Overview
Lhyfe and EDP Renewables have signed a 15-year Corporate Power Purchase Agreement (CPPA) for renewable electricity supply. This agreement involves a 39 MWac (55 MWp) solar project in Germany, developed by EDPR through Kronos Solar EDPR, expected to be connected to the grid by 2025.
Project Details
This CPPA is Lhyfe's largest to date and secures renewable power for its future green hydrogen production sites in Germany. Lhyfe is constructing two production units in Baden-Württemberg and Lower Saxony, with a combined capacity of up to 8 tonnes of green hydrogen per day, aimed at mobility and industrial uses.
Strategic Importance
For EDP Renewables, this deal marks its first long-term corporate contract for renewable energy in Germany since its expansion and the first PPA with a hydrogen company. This agreement supports EDPR's strategy of developing competitive projects with long-term visibility, contributing to the energy transition and decarbonization.
Future Plans
EDPR entered the German market in 2022 by acquiring Kronos Solar EDPR and currently has a pipeline of over 8 GWp in various stages of solar project development, including agri-PV projects. Although currently focused on solar technology, EDPR aims to develop wind projects in Germany by the end of the decade.
