- Lhyfe's plant will produce up to 4 tonnes/day of green hydrogen by early 2024.
- The facility will be powered by wind and solar energy.
- A hydrogen filling station and pipeline to the H2-Aspen tech park are included.
- The project is part of Lhyfe's strategy to supply Germany with green hydrogen by 2025.
Project Approval
Lhyfe has received approval from the city of Schwäbisch Gmünd, Germany, to construct a green hydrogen production plant on a 10,000 m2 industrial site. The facility will produce up to 4 tonnes of renewable hydrogen per day using water electrolysis.
Energy Sources and Infrastructure
The plant will be powered by electricity from a wind farm and photovoltaic installations. It will include a publicly accessible hydrogen filling station and a pipeline to supply the future H2-Aspen technology park with renewable hydrogen.
Operational Timeline
The hydrogen production plant is expected to be operational by early 2024. The hydrogen produced will be used as a process gas by industrial customers and as fuel for fuel cell vehicles at distribution stations.
Strategic Goals
This project aligns with the region's goal to establish an economically autonomous hydrogen industry. It is part of Lhyfe's broader strategy to supply Germany with green hydrogen on a national scale by 2025.
Future Developments
Lhyfe is actively pursuing the development of this project, with the next step being to obtain dedicated grants. This 10 MW project is one of 20 projects in advanced development, with a total capacity of 380.5 MW and planned operations between 2023 and 2026.
