Koch Technology Solutions and Alpek sign license for Suape PTA steam-reduction retrofit
- Koch Technology Solutions (KTS) and Alpek signed a license agreement for an energy-efficiency retrofit at Alpek’s Suape purified terephthalic acid (PTA) facility.
- The project targets reduced steam consumption to improve the site's energy efficiency and competitiveness.
- The Suape plant was originally built using KTS-licensed technology nearly two decades ago; Alpek awarded KTS a technical services contract for a Catalyst Recovery Upgrade in November 2025.
- After completing a feasibility study, the project will advance to the Process Design Package (PDP) phase.
Project scope
Koch Technology Solutions has licensed technology to Alpek for an energy-efficiency retrofit at the Suape PTA plant aimed at reducing steam consumption and improving site competitiveness.
Background
The Suape facility was originally built using KTS-licensed technology nearly two decades ago. In November 2025 Alpek awarded KTS a technical services contract for a Catalyst Recovery Upgrade, extending an existing technology relationship between the companies.
Schedule and next steps
KTS completed a feasibility study for the steam reduction work and the project will now proceed to the Process Design Package (PDP) phase.
Customer and licensor perspectives
KTS said the work supports customers' business and sustainability objectives and will deliver significant improvements in energy efficiency and competitiveness at the Suape PTA plant. Alpek described the initiative as a step to improve energy efficiency and strengthen the facility's competitiveness, noting its trust in KTS to deliver meaningful reductions in steam consumption while supporting operational and sustainability goals.
