Itabus fleet adopts Enilive HVO

Key highlights
  • Itabus' entire 100-vehicle fleet runs on Enilive HVOlution diesel as of 2026, following a collaboration that began in 2021 and trials in 2024.
  • Enilive HVOlution is produced at biorefineries in Venice and Gela from waste and residues (used cooking oil, animal fats, agri‑food residues) and is compatible with EN15940.
  • In 2025 Itabus logged ~20 million km using 5.7 million L of Enilive fuel, including 3 million L of HVO, averaging 53% biofuel use and peaking at 75% in December.
  • Across the full supply chain in 2025 Enilive HVO reduced CO2eq emissions by 79.5% versus the reference fossil mix and is sold at over 1,550 Enilive stations in Italy.

Fleet conversion

As of March 2026, all 100 Itabus vehicles operate on Enilive HVOlution diesel after a collaboration that began in 2021 and pilot use in 2024.

Fuel origin and compatibility

HVOlution is a hydrogenated vegetable oil produced at Enilive biorefineries in Venice and Gela from waste and residues (used cooking oil, animal fats, agri‑food residues); it is compatible with the EN 15940 specification and sold at more than 1,550 Enilive stations in Italy.

Usage and 2025 figures

In 2025 Itabus vehicles covered about 20 million km using 5.7 million liters of Enilive fuel, roughly 3 million liters of which were HVO; average biofuel share was 53%, with HVO accounting for 75% of refuelings in December 2025.

Emissions performance

On a full supply‑chain basis, weighted by actual feedstock batches processed at the Venice and Gela plants, Enilive HVO achieved an average 79.5% reduction in CO2‑equivalent emissions for traction use in 2025 versus the reference fossil mix.

Operational reach

Itabus used Enilive biofuel on long‑distance and international services (average 900 km per service) to destinations including Zurich, Paris, Lyon, Lugano, Barcelona, Montpellier, Perpignan, Grenoble, Chambéry and Ljubljana.
