Iberdrola connects 166 MWdc Tower Solar plant in Oregon
- Tower Solar has a capacity of 166 MWdc (120 MWac) and uses more than 250,000 solar panels.
- The facility is connected to the grid in Morrow County, Oregon, and will feed electricity into the Portland General Electric (PGE) grid.
- Output will primarily meet the needs of large municipal, commercial and industrial customers and will support QTS data‑centre operations in the region.
- Electricity will be supplied via the Green Future Impact (GFI) programme; Iberdrola expects commercial operation this summer after final project phases are completed.
Project and capacity
Iberdrola, through its Avangrid subsidiary, has connected the Tower Solar photovoltaic plant to the regional electricity grid in Morrow County, Oregon. The facility has a capacity of 166 MWdc (120 MWac) and incorporates more than 250,000 solar panels. The company expects the plant to enter commercial operation this summer once final project phases are completed.
Grid feed and customers
The energy produced will be fed into the Portland General Electric (PGE) grid and is intended primarily to meet demand from large municipal, commercial and industrial consumers amid strong regional electricity demand growth. The new capacity will help support operations in the region of QTS (Quality Technology Services), a US provider of digital infrastructure and data centres.
Commercial model and decarbonisation
The plant will supply electricity to PGE under the Green Future Impact (GFI) programme, which enables large customers to access clean energy to advance their decarbonisation goals. Iberdrola says this model develops new renewable capacity linked directly to customer demand without passing additional costs to other system users.
Strategic context
The project responds to sustained electricity demand growth in the north‑west United States. Through Avangrid, the Iberdrola Group reports more than 11,000 MW of installed capacity in the United States across nearly 100 plants in 25 states, and frames the development as supporting competitiveness, security of supply, local generation and community development.
