Honeywell to supply Ecofining and automation for Acelen Renewables' Bahia SAF plant

Key highlights
  • Honeywell will supply its modular Ecofining process, specialized pumps, compressors and integrated control and safety systems for Acelen Renewables' greenfield site in Bahia, Brazil.
  • Ecofining, developed with Eni SpA, converts waste fats, oils and greases into renewable diesel and SAF that can cut lifecycle GHG emissions by up to 80% when blended, per ICAO CORSIA default values (June 2025).
  • Honeywell's modular delivery model shortens construction time and lowers costs; the company has delivered more than 1,500 modular process units worldwide.
  • SAF demand is projected to reach nearly 500,000 barrels per day over the next decade, according to BloombergNEF (April 2025).

Scope of supply

Honeywell will provide its Ecofining™ process technology together with specialized pumps, compressors and integrated control and safety systems for Acelen Renewables' new greenfield facility in Bahia, Brazil.

Process and feedstocks

The Honeywell UOP Ecofining process, developed with Eni SpA, converts waste fats, oils and greases into renewable diesel and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). ICAO CORSIA default lifecycle emissions values indicate up to an 80% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions when such renewable fuels are blended with conventional jet fuel (June 2025).

Modular delivery and automation

Honeywell highlights a modular delivery model that shortens construction schedules and reduces costs, supported by more than 1,500 modular process units delivered globally. Its integrated control and safety system is embedded in the Experion® PKS platform to enable digitization and data-driven operating insights.

Market context

Demand for SAF is forecast to rise significantly—nearly 500,000 barrels per day over the next decade (BloombergNEF, April 2025)—and Honeywell says process and automation advances are reducing production costs and expanding viable feedstock options.
