EnviTec Biogas Launches First EnviThan Plant in Lithuania

Key highlights
  • The biogas plant in Šakiai will have a capacity of 675 Nm³/h of biomethane.
  • Completion and delivery are scheduled before April 30, 2026.
  • The plant will feed biomethane into the local high-pressure gas pipeline.
  • Lithuania aims to reduce fossil fuel use and promote e-fuels.

Project Overview

Europe aims for climate neutrality by 2050, with Lithuania investing in renewable energy. A new biogas plant in the Šakiai district, supported by state funding, will utilize EnviThan membrane technology to produce 675 Nm³/h of biomethane.

Decarbonization Efforts

Lithuania, Estonia, and Latvia have been independent of gas imports since 2022 and are advancing decarbonization in other sectors. Lithuania's Ministry of Transport has partnered with Germany and Japan to promote e-fuels with near-zero CO₂ emissions.

Timeline and Production

The gas upgrading plant, produced at EnviTec's Saerbeck site, is set for delivery by April 30, 2026. Once operational, it will feed biomethane into the local high-pressure gas pipeline, with potential use in the fuel market.
