thyssenkrupp Uhde's EnviNOx® Cuts Nitrous Oxide Emissions at CSBP

Key highlights
  • EnviNOx® technology achieves over 98% reduction in N₂O emissions at CSBP's NAAN3 plant.
  • Contracts signed for EnviNOx® installation at CSBP's NAAN1 and NAAN2 plants.
  • Projects aim to cut over 60,000 tons of CO₂-equivalent emissions annually.
  • WesCEF targets a 30% reduction in scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030 from a 2020 baseline.

EnviNOx® Technology Implementation

thyssenkrupp Uhde has implemented its EnviNOx® technology at CSBP's nitric acid plant in Kwinana, Western Australia. This technology has been successfully installed and commissioned in the Nitric Acid Ammonium Nitrate 3 (NAAN3) plant, achieving a significant reduction in nitrous oxide (N₂O) emissions.

Emission Reduction Achievements

The EnviNOx® system has reduced more than 98% of N₂O emissions at the NAAN3 plant, bringing N₂O outlet concentrations below 1 ppmv. This reduction is crucial as N₂O is a potent greenhouse gas with a global warming potential over 270 times that of carbon dioxide.

Future Projects and Goals

Following the success at NAAN3, contracts have been signed to extend the EnviNOx® technology to CSBP's NAAN1 and NAAN2 plants. These projects are expected to reduce over 60,000 tons of CO₂-equivalent emissions annually, contributing to WesCEF's target of a 30% reduction in scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030, based on a 2020 baseline.

Impact on Industry

The implementation of EnviNOx® technology supports the decarbonization of the agricultural and mining sectors by providing low-emissions products. This initiative aligns with broader climate goals and represents a significant step in reducing industrial emissions.
