DuPont FilmTec Fortilife XC220 wins Sustainability Product of the Year

Key highlights
  • Named Sustainability Product of the Year by the Business Intelligence Group.
  • High-pressure reverse osmosis element engineered to reach brine concentrations up to 220 g/L NaCl.
  • Launched in April 2026 as part of the FilmTec Fortilife portfolio.
  • Aimed at MLD/ZLD operations across mining, petrochemical, automotive, textile, power generation and lithium extraction.

Award

DuPont’s FilmTec Fortilife XC220 element was named a Sustainability Product of the Year by the Business Intelligence Group for its contribution to industrial water reuse, resource recovery and more sustainable Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) and Minimal Liquid Discharge (MLD) operations.

Technology

The XC220 is a high-pressure reverse osmosis element designed to increase brine concentration to as much as 220 g/L NaCl. By extending membrane treatment into concentration ranges traditionally handled by energy‑intensive thermal processes, the element is intended to maximise water recovery, enable selective salt recovery and reduce liquid waste volumes for downstream treatment.

Impact and applications

Launched in April 2026 within the FilmTec Fortilife portfolio, the element targets industrial sectors including mining, petrochemical, automotive, textile, power generation, lithium extraction and advanced manufacturing. DuPont states the technology can lower overall treatment costs and energy consumption in selected MLD and ZLD applications; DuPont Water Solutions technologies are reported to purify more than 50 million gallons of water every minute in 112 countries.
