Chandra Asri Group advances CA‑EDC plant into jetty and storage tank construction
- Project is 66% complete and has entered the jetty and storage tank development phase to support logistics and distribution.
- Plant initial annual capacity: 827,000 tonnes caustic soda and 500,000 tonnes ethylene dichloride (EDC).
- Caustic soda output could substitute up to ~827,000 tpa of imports, valued at about USD 293 million (IDR 4.9 trillion); EDC exports could generate up to USD 300 million (≈IDR 5 trillion) annually.
- Project engaged ~3,000 construction workers to date and is expected to create around 250 jobs on start‑up, with operations targeted in Q1 2027; local UMKM are being involved in the supply chain.
Project progress
The CA‑EDC plant has reached 66% completion and moved into the construction phase for key logistics infrastructure, specifically a jetty and storage tanks. This infrastructure is intended to support distribution, storage and logistics management for chlor alkali and ethylene dichloride products and to improve connectivity across the national and regional chemical supply chain.
Production capacity and market impact
In its initial operational phase the facility is targeted to produce 827,000 tonnes per year of caustic soda and 500,000 tonnes per year of EDC. Caustic soda production is expected to reduce Indonesia's import dependence and could substitute up to approximately 827,000 tpa of imports, with an estimated value of USD 293 million (IDR 4.9 trillion). EDC output will be directed to export markets, with potential foreign exchange earnings of up to USD 300 million (≈IDR 5 trillion) per year.
Economic and social impact
The development has engaged about 3,000 workers during construction and is expected to create roughly 250 jobs when fully operational, targeted in the first quarter of 2027. The project also involves local UMKM for various supply chain and operational needs, aiming to strengthen the surrounding industrial ecosystem and local economic activity.
