Expansion Plans
Borealis is set to increase its polypropylene (PP) capacity in Europe, focusing on its plants in Belgium. The company has decided to expand the PP plant in Kallo by 80kt, with the new capacity expected to be operational by mid-2020.
Beringen Plant Development
In Beringen, Borealis has approved the Front End Engineering and Design (FEED) phase for a significant expansion of 250-300kt. The final investment decision is anticipated by the end of 2019, with the start-up projected for mid-2022. This project will upgrade the current process technology to the Borstar® platform.
Supply Chain Integration
The capacity increases are designed to leverage the additional propylene supply from the new propane dehydrogenation (PDH) plant in Kallo. Feedstock will be transported to Beringen through an underground pipeline network, ensuring safe and environmentally friendly logistics.
