Contracts and value
COPEL awarded ANDRITZ two turnkey contracts to supply and commission additional generating units at the Foz do Areia and Segredo hydropower plants on the Iguaçu River in Paraná. The combined order is in the mid three‑digit million‑euro range and was included in ANDRITZ’s order intake for Q1 2026.
Capacity and grid impact
The expansion adds more than 2.1 GW to the two plants, which currently total 2.9 GW, increasing COPEL’s total installed capacity from 6.2 GW to 8.3 GW — a 34% rise intended to strengthen grid stability and support renewable integration.
Scope, schedule and jobs
ANDRITZ will deliver the full execution and commissioning of the new units, including turbines, generators and all related equipment. Construction is scheduled to start in 2026, with the units planned to begin operation in 2030 and nearly 2,000 direct jobs expected at peak activity.
Context
The contracts were awarded to COPEL under Brazil’s 2nd Capacity Reserve Auction (LRCAP) and represent COPEL’s largest power‑generation investment in decades, marking a notable step in the country’s energy transition.
