bp starts non-associated gas production at ACG

Key highlights
  • Operator bp and co-venturers SOCAR, MOL, INPEX, ExxonMobil, TPAO and ONGC Videsh commenced non-associated gas production from ACG
  • Initial well drilled from West Chirag targeted Qirmaki Upper and Lower Sands, confirming gas and high-pressure gas in the Lower Sand
  • Estimated recoverable NAG reserves ~4 Tcf with upside to ~6 Tcf
  • Produced gas and condensate will be routed to Sangachal Terminal via existing ACG infrastructure

Overview

bp, as operator for the ACG co‑venturers SOCAR, MOL, INPEX, ExxonMobil, TPAO and ONGC Videsh, has commenced non‑associated gas production from the ACG field in the Azerbaijan sector of the Caspian Sea, the field's first commercial gas production.

Well and reservoirs

The initial NAG well was drilled from the West Chirag platform last year into two priority Qirmaki reservoirs beneath producing oil zones: the Qirmaki Upper Sand (gas confirmed) and the Qirmaki Lower Sand (high‑pressure gas encountered); early operations are focused on testing the Lower Sand.

Reserves and appraisal

ACG's NAG resource is estimated at about 4 trillion cubic feet recoverable with upside to roughly 6 Tcf; data from the initial well will support reservoir appraisal and future full‑field gas development planning.

Processing and infrastructure

Produced gas and condensate will be routed to the Sangachal Terminal via existing ACG infrastructure, integrating oil and gas systems to utilize current offshore facilities.
