Investment Overview
Ercros plans to invest €28 million in its Sabiñánigo factory from 2016 to 2020. This investment aims to enhance production capabilities and modernize the facility.
New Chlorine and Caustic Soda Plant
The primary project involves constructing a new plant to produce chlorine and caustic soda using membrane electrolysis technology, considered the best available technology (BAT). The plant will have an annual production capacity of 15,000 tons of caustic soda and 14,000 tons of chlorine. The chlorine will be partially used to manufacture hydrochloric acid and supply the TCCA plant, while coproduced hydrogen will enable the production of 2,100 tons of high-purity ammonia.
TCCA Plant Expansion
The second major project is expanding the TCCA plant's capacity from 22,000 tons per year to 28,000 tons per year. This follows a previous expansion in 2013, which increased capacity from 16,000 tons per year to the current level. TCCA, a chlorine derivative, is used for disinfecting swimming pool water.
Past Investments
Over the past decade, €30 million has been invested in the Sabiñánigo factory. These investments include converting the chlorine-potash electrolysis plant to membrane technology and increasing sodium chlorite production capacity.
Workforce and Production Focus
The Sabiñánigo factory employs 204 people and focuses on producing chlorine and its derivatives, including TCCA and sodium hypochlorite, as well as potassium hydroxide, potassium carbonate, sodium chlorate, sodium chlorite, ammonia, and hydrogen peroxide. The facility also houses an R&D department responsible for technical advances in swimming pool water treatment.
