Réseau de Transport d’Électricité (RTE) is France’s electricity transmission system operator (TSO). It operates, maintains, and develops the national high‑voltage grid and cross‑border interconnections, managing real‑time balance between supply and demand and ensuring system security and power quality. The network spans over 100,000 km of high‑ and very‑high‑voltage lines linking producers, large consumers, and distribution networks.
RTE connects generation assets—including renewables and cogeneration—and major industrial sites, plans and delivers grid reinforcements, and facilitates access to the wholesale market. It procures ancillary services such as frequency control and reserves from generators, aggregators, and flexible consumers, enabling demand‑side response to support grid stability. Through its infrastructure, market mechanisms, and operational data, RTE underpins reliable electricity supply and the electrification of energy‑intensive sectors, including the chemical industry.
