- The Lapouyade site in Gironde converts non-recyclable waste into 45,000 MWh/year of electricity and 38,000 MWh/year of heat.
- Veolia's digital solution allows the site to adjust electricity production within seconds.
- The site can modulate power equivalent to the consumption of around 2,000 households.
- Veolia plans to deploy this solution across 25 sites in France in the coming months.
Introduction
The Lapouyade Industrial Ecology Hub in Gironde, operated by Veolia, is the first waste recovery site in France to join the secondary reserve of the national electricity grid managed by RTE.
Electricity Production
Since 2015, the site has been converting local non-recyclable waste into biogas, generating 45,000 MWh/year of electricity and 38,000 MWh/year of heat for local greenhouses.
Flexibility Solution
Veolia has implemented a digital solution that enables the site to adjust its electricity production within seconds, responding to real-time grid needs and preventing voltage fluctuations or power outages.
Technology Deployment
This flexibility is achieved through a connected box developed by Veolia as part of its Flexcity offering, which acts as an interface with RTE, allowing power modulation equivalent to the consumption of around 2,000 households.
Future Plans
Veolia plans to expand this technology to 25 strategic sites across France in the coming months, supporting the growing electrification of various sectors and ensuring grid resilience.
